Spanish BA
A major in Spanish consists of at least 33 semester hours of approved courses beyond Elementary Spanish II.
Major Requirements
Students must complete the following core courses:

SPAN 310 | Advanced Strategies for Reading and Writing in Spanish | 3 |
SPAN 320 | Spanish Composition | 3 |
SPAN 325 | Culture of Spain (in Spanish) | 3 |
SPAN 328 | Spanish-American Culture (in Spanish) | 3 |
SPAN 332 | Spanish Conversation and Pronunciation | 3 |
Students must also complete 12 hours from the following electives:
SPAN 345 | Literature of Spain: Major Works | 3 |
SPAN 346 | Spanish-American Literature | 3 |
SPAN 360 | Professional Communication in Spanish I | 3 |
SPAN 361 | Professional Communication in Spanish II | 3 |
SPAN 362 | Spanish Grammar and Syntax I | 3 |
SPAN 363 | Spanish Grammar and Syntax II | 3 |
SPAN 400 | Seminar in Conversational Topics | 1 to 4 |
SPAN 490 | Advanced Studies in Spanish | 1 to 4 |
SPAN 491 | Independent Study in Spanish | 1 to 4 |
SPAN 499 | Study/Internship in a Spanish-Speaking Country | 1 to 12 |
A maximum of three courses within the major (SPAN 220, SPAN 221, SPAN 332) may be waived due to successful completion of a placement examination. All Spanish majors are required to complete a semester of an immersion program.
